Plantar Fasciitis - is usually caused by tightening of the plantar fascia located at the bottom of the foot which shares similar property as a rubber band. General signs and symptoms may involve pain in the heel and/or arch, and an increase level of discomfort during the morning, end of the day, or after prolong period of immobilization. Causes of plantar fasciitis may involve biomechanical/positional deformities, overused injuries and or poor footwear choices. Treatments for plantar fasciitis may involve orthotics, proper footwear, proper exercise, thermotherapy, anti-inflammatory, cortisone injection, and surgeries for severe cases. Tips to reduce pain
- Stretch and massage plantar fascia before stepping out of bed in the morning
- Avoid walking around barefoot (even indoors)
- Ice the area at the start and end of the day
- Avoid shoes with no arch support
- Decrease activity level until healing has occurred
